Greater Lawrence Technical School: I am running for a second term on the School Committee for the Greater Lawrence Technical School due to my interest in education and a desire to volunteer in representing North Andover on this regional school committee. There are currently 19 students from North Andover attending Greater Lawrence Technical School for school year 2007-2008. The students are currently enrolled in the following vocational areas: Automotive Collision Repair & Refinishing, Automotive Technology, Carpentry, Culinary Arts, Cosmetology, Electrical, Electronics, Exploratory, Graphic Communications, Marketing and Plumbing.

The regional breakdown of School Committee membership consists of seven representatives; one from Andover, three from Lawrence, two from Methuen and one from North Andover. School Committee members receive no compensation or health care benefits. The G.L.T.S. website is: www.glts.tec.ma.us.

As the elected official representing the Town of North Andover, my School Committee member duties include:  Serving as a member of the G.L.T.S. Regional Board of Governance; representing the citizens of North Andover regarding all G.L.T.S. matters; serving as a conduit for the school and municipal administrations of both the Town of North Andover and Greater Lawrence Technical School.

From a financial perspective, the actual fiscal year 2008 assessment for the Town of North Andover was $268,000; the estimated fiscal year 2009 assessment is $283,000. The Massachusetts’ Department of Education per pupil cost for a G.L.T.S. student for fiscal year 2009 is $15,383.

I strongly believe my educational and professional experiences have provided me the skills to be effective to continue serving on this committee. During my first three-year term on the School Committee I served as Assistant Treasurer and Treasurer in addition to various sub-committees such as the Budget Oversight Committee, the Superintendent’s Search Committee and various collective bargaining unit negotiation committees. I look forward to continuing my work with our new Superintendent-Director Dr. Judy A. DeLucia to achieve the many initiatives she has undertaken to enhance student achievement.
