Dear Readers,
If you are a supporter of the arts, or have admired the Essex Arts Center in Lawrence, here's an evening you won't want to miss! Wouldn't it be wonderful if we had a creative community art center right here in North Andover?!
Ed Wang, Chair of our North Andover Cultural Council, forwarded the information pasted in below:
NORTH ANDOVER CULTURAL COUNCIL MEETING
TO DISCUSS ESTABLISHING COMMUNITY MEETING ROOM/ART SPACE AT EAST MILL
Tuesday, Feb 16 @ 7 pm.
East Mill Lobby at 21 High Street, North Andover
The North Andover Cultural Council and David Steinbergh, principal with East Mill at Davis & Furber, will host a public meeting to discuss establishing a Community Meeting Room and Art Gallery/Studio Space in the East Mill at Davis & Furber complex in conjunction with Andovers Artists Guild and other community partners. In addition to containing several studio spaces to be rented to local artists, the Community Meeting Room could be used to host public events and meetings as well as art classes, music, poetry, movies, and other cultural activities.
The North Andover Cultural Council is a group of interested residents whose purpose is to support community-based projects and activities in the arts, humanities and interpretive sciences to benefit the residents of North Andover and to dispense public funding allocated by the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency.
East Mill at Davis & Furber is the section of the old Davis & Furber Machine Shop complex between Water and Sutton Streets and on the east side of High St. in North Andover's downtown. In the last three years, the property has been converted to include professional offices and small manufacturers, 19 loft apartments and two restaurants.
The Andover Artists Guild was incorporated as a nonprofit organization in 1970 with an initial membership of 9 members. Since then, it has grown to more than 90 active members. The membership includes artists and arts patrons from Andover and North Andover as well as surrounding towns and New Hampshire.
Directions: From Stevens Memorial Library on Main St., take Elm St. past the Trinitarian Congregational Church. At Water St., Elm St. becomes High St. The 21 High Street lobby entrance is just below Stachey's Pizza.
